About Slop Sleuth
Slop Sleuth is a fast AI-literacy puzzle about spotting the one claim that does not hold up. Each round shows a short, confident, assistant-style answer with four highlighted claims. Three are accurate or defensible and exactly one is the slop, a fabricated, overconfident, impossible, or just plain wrong statement. You tap the claim you think is the slop, get instant correct or not-quite feedback, and then see the slop pattern named with a one-line explanation. It starts in seconds, runs anonymously, and needs no setup or sign-in.
Every card is self-contained general knowledge written for practice, not pulled from any live model or the web. The facts are everyday and checkable, the slop is planted on purpose, and the display order of the four claims is shuffled each time so the wrong one is never in a predictable spot. A run is twelve cards and ends early after four misses, so the game rewards reading carefully rather than tapping fast.
When you miss, the real slop is revealed and labeled, so a wrong guess still teaches you the pattern to watch for, such as a fake citation, a swapped definition, a missing qualifier, or a confident myth. The recap shows your score, accuracy, longest streak, average response time, and the slop patterns you caught, with your streak and high score stored on your own device. A daily mode keyed to the UTC date gives everyone the same deck, and a practice mode rotates through the full corpus before any card repeats.
How to Play
- Press Start game to deal the first card, a short assistant-style answer with four highlighted claims.
- Read all four claims, then tap the single claim you believe is the AI slop, the one that is made up, impossible, or wrong.
- Read the instant feedback: a correct tap keeps your streak, and a miss reveals which claim was the real slop, with the pattern named and a one-line reason.
- Press Next card to advance. Finish all twelve cards, or the run ends early once you reach four misses.
- Review your recap, play again, or switch between Daily and Practice. Daily replays the same seeded deck for the day; Practice rotates through fresh cards.
Tips & Tricks
- Read the whole answer before you tap. The slop often hides next to true claims and only stands out once you compare all four.
- Watch for a precise-sounding citation, date, or measurement. A made-up source or an oddly exact number is a classic slop pattern.
- Be wary of confident absolutes and well-worn myths. A claim that overstates, swaps two definitions, or drops an important qualifier is often the planted one.
- Check your most-missed pattern in the recap and focus on it next time, since the same handful of slop patterns repeat across cards.
How the daily works
- Every UTC day, every player gets the same twelve-card deck, so you can compare how you did with friends.
- A correct tap adds to your score with speed and streak bonuses; a miss scores zero and resets your streak, and the run ends after twelve cards or four misses.
- Your streak, best result, and high score are stored on your device under a namespaced key, so they never collide with other games.
About the cards
- Every card is fictional and self-contained. The answers are authored for practice, not generated by or fetched from any AI model or website at runtime.
- The slop is planted on purpose and the claim order is shuffled each play, so the game tests judgment rather than a memorized position.
- No accounts, no personal information, and nothing you do is sent to or fetched from a third-party service while you play.
Slop Sleuth is a free media-literacy game for entertainment only. It is a practice exercise, not a professional AI-detection verdict, and it does not detect, score, or certify whether any real text was written by AI.
