About Sum Target
Sum Target merges classic arithmetic drills with frantic time-pressure strategy. You’re given a grid of numbered tiles and a target value to reach before the timer drains. Each selection alters the board—numbers lock, new modifiers spawn, and combo streaks raise the stakes. The result is a puzzle-shooter hybrid where you must balance quick addition with forward planning. The math stays approachable, but the real challenge lies in choosing the optimal route through multipliers, doubles, and sneaky negative tiles.
We crafted each mode to emphasize a different mental muscle. Sprint mode rewards rapid-fire mental math, Marathon mode emphasizes efficiency over time, and Puzzle weekends introduce fixed boards where every move counts. Adaptive difficulty keeps the pressure even: performing well introduces larger numbers and operations, while slower rounds offer helpful power-ups. The presentation pairs neon styling with crisp sounds so every correct sum feels like triggering a satisfying cascade.
Sum Target is also an educational tool in disguise. Teachers and parents use it to reinforce quick arithmetic, while competitive players enjoy chasing leaderboard records. Accessibility options include alternate fonts, colorblind-friendly palettes, and adjustable tile spacing. Whether you’re brushing up on mental math or just love a good combo chase, Sum Target offers a brain-tingling blend of calculation and quick decision-making.
How to Play
- Review the target value at the top of the screen and scan the board for promising number combinations.
- Tap tiles to add them to your running total; the sum updates in real time so you can adjust before submitting.
- Hit the submit button once your running total matches the target. Correct submissions clear the used tiles and refresh the board.
- Avoid overshooting the target—if you exceed the value, the selection resets and you lose time from the round timer.
- Complete the required number of correct targets within the time limit to progress to the next stage or finish the challenge.
Tips & Tricks
- Prioritize tiles with modifiers such as ×2 or +5 early; they create larger scoring windows and reduce the number of taps needed.
- Mentally chunk the board into tens and fives to speed up addition. Recognizing quick pairs keeps you ahead of the timer.
- If you are close but not exact, look for small adjustment tiles (1s and 2s) instead of tearing down your entire combination.
- Watch the tile refresh pattern—new numbers often appear near cleared spaces, so planning chain reactions saves precious seconds.
Classroom and practice ideas*
- Warm-up drill: have students play one timed round at the start of math class and share which number combinations they found easiest.
- Peer challenge: pair students to alternate turns on a single device; one selects tiles while the other verifies the running total aloud.
- Strategy debrief: after a round, ask students to explain why they chose certain tiles first—this reinforces mental-math reasoning.
- Homework sprint: assign a target score to beat overnight and compare results the next day as a low-stakes competition.
