About Word Trail
Word Trail is a daily themed word-search puzzle on an eight-by-eight grid of letters. Every day hides a short theme and a set of seven answers: six themed words plus one long anchor word that ties the set together. You trace each hidden word by linking touching letters, and cells connect in all eight directions, so a word can run across, down, or along a diagonal. It starts in seconds, runs anonymously, and needs no setup or sign-in.
Each correct themed word locks into a colored path, fills one of the seven answer slots, earns you a hint token, and reveals one letter of the hidden anchor. The anchor is the longest answer and stretches between two edges of the board, so finding it completes the theme. Valid words that are not on the theme are still welcome: they nudge a separate hint meter rather than ending your run, so exploring the grid is rewarded, not punished.
The puzzle is keyed to the UTC date, so every player sees the same board on the same day, and a light practice mode rotates through fresh rounds when you want another go. Your streak, best time, and recent solves stay on your device under a namespaced key, so they never collide with the other games. When a run ends you get a quick recap with your numbers and a suggestion for what to play next.
How to Play
- Press Start daily to reveal the grid, the theme clue, and the seven empty answer slots, or press Practice for an off-the-clock round.
- Trace a word by clicking or dragging across touching letters in order; cells connect across, down, and diagonally. You can also use the arrow keys to move and Enter to extend the trace.
- Press Submit when your traced letters spell a themed word. Use Clear, or press Backspace, to undo the current trace.
- Each correct themed word locks into a colored path, fills a slot, grants one hint token, and reveals one letter of the long anchor.
- Find all six themed words and the anchor to complete the run, or spend a hint token to reveal the first letter of a word you are stuck on.
Tips & Tricks
- Read the theme clue first; it tells you what the six words have in common and often hints at the long anchor.
- Remember that diagonals count, so check corner-to-corner routes, not just straight rows and columns.
- The anchor stretches between two edges of the board, so when you are hunting the long word, start your search from the outer rows and columns.
- Solving themed words is the cheapest way to crack the anchor, since each one reveals another of its letters for free.

- The first thirty days play through thirty hand-built rounds in order; after that the selector cycles a shuffled queue with no repeats until the set is exhausted.
